Lebanon's interim governor of the central bank, Wassim Manssouri, said in a press conference in Beirut on Friday that the country must implement urgent reforms demanded by creditors or it will risk further stagnation and isolation. Lebanon ordered the freezing of the bank accounts of former central bank governor Riad Salameh, who left his post at the end of last month, after the United States, the UK and Canada announced sanctions against him earlier this month. Politicians have been in talks about finding a permanent replacement for Salameh, but the divided political class has so far failed to agree on a permanent governor, creating another power vacuum in a country with no president and only a caretaker cabinet with limited powers.
