-History: _The duchy of Brabant_ Pieter Breughel in Brussel is a song made by Yannes van de Velde. Allthough the song is not that old, it's sang in the Brabantian language by Yannes. Brabant was a Duchy under different kingdoms during the medieval period in Europe. Brabant was subjects from countries like Burgundy, Spain, Austria, the holy roman empire and the united provicnes (Netherlands). The duchy itself was desolved during the Napoleonic wars in where Napoleon disbanded the duchy and gave the north to its newly founded vassal state called the "Batavian Kingdom". The southern part was integrated into France. Brabantian was more distinct from both Dutch and Flemish at the time but still Dutch and Flemish people would be able to understand Brabantian. Nowadays most people view it as a dialect of the Dutch language. What used to be the dutchy of Brabant is now part of Flanders in Belgium and the sourthern part of the Netherlands called "Noord-Brabant" or "North-Brabant". You can still find a lot of medieval remnants of the duchy of Brabant in these areas, from archeological sites to still operational monestaries and medieval towns. Brabant is well known for it's forest-like terrain. _Pieter Breughel the Old_ Pieter Breughel was a Brabantian artist in the 16th century. Almost all of the images in the bankground of this video were paintings of Pieter. The song is about Pieter Breughel waking up from the dead to see how Brabant (Brussels in particular) Changed during his rest. To his surprise, the dutch were not fighting with the Spanish anymore and French people started to live in Brussels by large quantities. At the end of the song, a sad Pieter Breughel goes back to his resting place after he painted a small painting of a Fleming imprisoned by his own complexities and struggle against foreign influence. - Be sure to join our discord if you like history: https://discord.gg/v6AMQKb73j -Do you like historical songs or anthems?
