I wanted to write a song that touched on the duality of self, and how that might play a role in a relationship. When writing the song, I wondered what that duality would look like if you felt the other person mirrored you, and was, in essence, another version of yourself. Egoist is a contradicting tale of seeing yourself so much in someone else that it blurs the line between true love and self love, all the while being dangerously codependent, and, yet, somehow disconnected.
