Making a Knife in 2 hours, 7 minutes

I had this off-cut of O-1 that wasn't long enough for most knives I make. I thought it would be fun to see how fast I could make a knife. Total time working on the knife was 2 hours, 7 minutes. You can add 4 hours and 50 minutes to that for the various time the knife spent in the oven, ferric chloride and stone tumbler. I really enjoyed the free-hand profiling and not working off a drawing with this knife. I've never done that before and it was refreshing to change it up a bit. #simplelittlelife #knifemaking #howto Amazon affiliate links: Find that checkering file (for thumb grip) here: https://amzn.to/2V17i9p My rotary tool: https://amzn.to/2UHip8f Bristle Brush for rotary tool: https://amzn.to/2yrtodl Subscribe to Simple Little Life: /channel/UCUSz ... With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family. Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration. Mailing Address: Box 6, Site 16 RR2 Strathmore, Alberta Canada T1P 1K5

@augie.74 years ago I have been making knives for a couple of years but still find myself at my workbench or desk and do not have a knife handy. I decided that I needed to make several to lay around. This is the perfect idea, small, utility, easy to make, and made of scrap....perfect. Thanks again my friend for sharing your ideas. ... 23

@stephaniecureton56574 years ago That just shows how great of a knife DESIGNER you are. You started grinding and the shape just came out of the steel like it was meant to be lol. Beautiful little knife 16

@seeingthepattern4 years ago Splendid little knife.
Someone else has already said it, but the full two-hours and seven minutes unedited would be a great thing to watch …
    That was a hint.

@yubes884 years ago Beautiful knife, I would love to own it if you ever decide to let it go.
Also, I agree with the above comments, a slim little kydex sheath would make this a perfect neck knife.

@randomguyfromtexas11854 years ago I’m so glad I have discovered your page!!! I’ve been making knives off and on for a few years now, nothing really major, but as of late I decided to start back to making them in more of a serious manner and watching your YouTube videos inspires me to really work harder at it and take my time. I’ve got about 15 blanks I’ve cut out and a couple I’ve finished up out of that batch and they have turned out really well and they’ve turned into something I can really be proud of. They’re nothing fancy, but they are tough knives and hold a really good edge even after I have beat the crap out of them to make sure they hold up and to make sure I have my heat treating steps down and consistent. Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the great work!!!!! ... 3

@chrisosh95744 years ago Some of the most rewarding projects are the off the cuff ideas. I like everything about that little knife, it would make a perfect fixed blade pocket knife in a nice leather sheath.
    I am guessing about 5-5 1/2" ?
